Message from the Principal

Lent

This week students attended the Ash Wednesday Mass which marks the preparation for lent. Lent is a time of solemn observance and preparation for the celebration of the death and resurrection of Jesus at Easter. Lent is time for fasting or giving something up. Lent allows us time to clear our minds and hearts ready for remembering Jesus’ life, death and resurrection. The Lenten Season is a time of preparation and penance in the 40 days prior to Easter. During Religious Education classes the children will not only discuss what Lent is about but will also look at ways they can be involved in the Lenten Season such as giving up something i.e. lollies, chocolate, etc. or giving something of themselves i.e. helping around the house or donating to Project Compassion.

What an amazing day we had for our swimming carnival. I was so impressed with the way in which our students supported and cheered for their friends. Well done to Mr B who did a fantastic job preparing for and running the day. A big thankyou to all staff who assisted on the day and to our parent helpers who did a fantastic job. Thankyou to the P&F for running the sausage sizzle.

Year 6 Camp 2023

We arrive at school we are instantly greeted by Mrs Caridi, Mrs Luscombe and all the parents including my mother. In the glimpse of my eye I already know where we are going, I see 2 large buses . Mrs Caridi informs of the basics and rules of camp . I wait excitedly as Mrs claver sharply counts us individually . I pick my seat with my classmate Cruze D’Orazio, the drive starts the bus as all the students scream excitedly we all clearly know this is going to be a life changing moment .

“ shush “ the bus finally opens we finally arrive , we see all of these buildings , when we arrive we pack our heavy bags in the exhausting blazing heat of the hot sun , I took my bags and I arrive at the main field of the giant campsite we eat lunch not knowing the adventure up ahead. And what an adventure it was!

We did some amazing things: Big Swing, Flying Fox, Archery, surf life saving and so much more. Camp 2023, we will never forget you!

Naplan 2023

NAPLAN information brochures have  been sent home to parents of students in Year 3 and Year 5 this week.  Please look out for this document that provides information for parents and carers about NAPLAN and how you can support your child.  Your child will sit the NAPLAN online tests except for the Year 3 Writing test which remains in paper format.

Students will be exposed to the format and process of the tests prior to the test period, however please take the time to visit the public demonstrations site with your child to get an idea of what the tests look like and to give them opportunities to practice:

http://nap.edu.au/online-assessment/public-demonstration-site

The dates for NAPLAN are Wednesday 15th March – Monday 27th March and although tests will be scheduled for specific days in this time, catch up tests will be conducted during the whole period to give all students an opportunity to complete all tests.

Saver Plus Community Program

Saver Plus – helping take the stress out of back to school time

The Saver Plus community program has helped over 55,000 Australians take the stress out of back to school time. It’s free for eligible people to join.

At Saver Plus, we pair you with a savings coach while you budget and save over the next 10 months. You attend online workshops to learn tips, tricks and information to grow your budgeting and savings skills. Once you reach your agreed savings goal, ANZ matches your savings dollar-for-dollar, up to $500. You can use that money towards education costs such as uniforms, text books, laptops or extra-curricular activities such as sport or music.

You could be eligible to join Saver Plus if you:

  • have a Centrelink Health Care Card or Pensioner Concession Card
  • are at least 18 years old
  • have some regular income from work (you or your partner) including casual, part-time, full-time or seasonal (we also accept child support and carer’s payment as income)
  • have a child at school or attend vocational education yourself.

If you’re eligible, start now and we’ll help take the stress out of next year’s back to school.

To find out more, or to apply, go to www.saverplus.org.au or call  1300 610 355
